so i have spent all morning surfing ebay/ yarndex trying to find *the* replacement yarn for the anny blatt kanpur used in the vogue high neck lace top. i am so bitter that i can't really afford it. it comes in so many pretty colours! i'd use vintage or nostalgie, if i were to buy it, i think.
will check *cough*calico&ivy*cough* for a straight cotton/silk blend; or maybe even a real nice straight cotton, but failing that i think that debbie bliss cathay is the go. it now comes in quite a few colours. i'm a bit unsure about the rayon content in it. rayon=acryclic=plastic=sweaty= NOT an elegant victorian lady. but it is only 35% non-natural fibre. if i were to use it, i'd go for the creatively named shades 8, 9 or 10.
the problem with mercerised cotton is that i read somewhere that its terribly bad for the environment. can't remember why *sigh*

i think cotton in general is meant to be bad for the environment. cos of the amount of space and water and chemicals it takes to grow it, or something.

but not sure why mercerised would be worse, will look it up...

by the by, since you've got access to a spinnign wheel, do you want some fleece?

ysolda, that is so awesome to know! makes cathay a more appealing choice.
(and hey, ysolda's reading our blog! i feel like, i dunno, Katie Steele realised that Nancy Sinatra was alive and enjoying her music).

clementine, *why* do you have fleece (in your stash?) I don't really know anything about spinning yet, so i'll hold off (for now).

i remember something about there being quite a harsh chemical runoff from mercerising cotton, maybe?

oh god, i'm starstruck now, haha. hi ysolda! (yo, claire, now we sound like creepy stalker people... d'oh! i'll bet ysolda is thanking the sweet lord that we're in australia!!)

and why shouldn't i have fleece in my stash? i mean, at least half of it is crappy acrylics that people keep on giving me, so i thought i'd try and even out the balance. ("oh, you knit? here, have some wool!"... i have literally come home to BAGS full of yarn left on my doorstep. wtf?! well-meaning people, i love them all)

erm... half of my STASH is crappy acrylic. not half my fleece. duh.

jeez, you'd never guess i write for a living! i use all my good word-power at work and i think it leaves me a gibbering idiot the rest of the time...
